so a couple months back i decided to try and build one of these oilcan guitars. Also known as gascan guitars, can-tars, or canjo's, if there only 4 strings. but this one isn't. it's a bon-o-fide 6 string ee-leck-trick guitar. I found the can down at an antique store in new west. and for 30 bucks i walked out with an oilcan and a 3/4 scale classical guitar that was broken in two. The classical guitar has since become a resonator slide guitar.(More on that one later).

Like I've said before i work at the World Famous Panther Guitar Case Comapny where we can build you any case for any instrument. It just takes time. We also can build Lp storage cases, and cases for just about anything that is cool. even if' it's not cool, we can build a case for it. But we prefer cool. anyways, needless to say i have some access to some pretty sweet machinery. old wartime sewing machines that could literally sew two peices of plywood together. and rivet machines that you could build a tank with. Routers that are 6 feet tall and a belt sander that you could sand your arm off with. that sorta stuff. It's all at my disposal.

So being that i wield that kind of power, (i don't ) i decided to try to come up with something.

The neck is a Sparrow neck from a Twangmaster guitar, that i sanded down to make it a bit thinner. i routered the fretboard so the bulldog logo is inlaid. The bridge is also from a Twangmaster and the pick up is a "Handsome Jack" which is from Sparrow's custom line up of pick-ups. And as you can see, i also painted the headstock with latex paint to match the body. And to give it an aged look, i sanded the latex headstock before the paint was completely dry, this kinda smeared it and blended the white over the red, it also gave it a faded look.

The guitar felt awkward to play at first but once you get over that it feels nice, and when plugged in it sounds awesome! the Handsome Jack pick-up is real aggresive and crisp. and the good boys down at the World Famous Sparrow Guitar Company gave me an invaluble lesson on intonation.
A great bonus is that this guitar actaully sounds pretty good when not pluged in. It resonates because it is essentially a hollowbody and you can hear the "color" in the notes very well. (if that makes sense).
This is just one project of many ongoing projects, it never seems to stop for me. so stay tuned....or not...
Props to Billy Bones and Skinny Tim for the intonation insight.
